Jehovahs Witnesses - Mainstreaming, Like It Or Not
by metatron init used to be that pioneers supported themselves with free literature and magazines and put in 100+ hours a month.
then 90, then 70.. a publisher had to put in at least an hour a month to be counted.
now 15 minutes.. they used to hand out a written review and collect it and grade it!

I've noticed this too.
I remember all those assemblies where they would constantly drone that we have to do everything "all the more-so" as the end is drawing closer.
Whatever happened to "all the more-so"?

Why did they end the orchestras?
by Lady Lee init used to be so nice to listen to the orchestras at the circuit and district conventions.
then they ended it and i know i missed it.
we had a couple of youn men in our cong who were in the orchestra.

I used to play in the orchestras at both circuit and district assemblies when I was younger. We were told that there would be no more orchestras because it was taking up too much of our time practising that could be better used for other things (read field service)
They also said it wasn't proper for us to play our own arrangements of the Society's music.

I am going to get this book, sounds interesting.
Oompa-yes, there are millions of active pagans of all sorts. I would suggest you start by reading about Wicca, which is a modern pagan belief system, and go from there to learn about others. Pagans are, for the most part, very tolerant people. There is a great emphasis on personal responsibility and being careful to do no harm.

Going Out in "Service"
by Farkel ingoing out in "service".
we used the term thousands of times, but did we ever consider the term itself and what it actually meant?

Farkel, I have learned much from your topics too. It may be a little slow now but there are many new ones lurking here just waiting for the chance to join. Your posts are very thought provoking, I hope you continue.

As a JW Did you Feel you Could Fully Trust the Elders ?
by flipper ini know for many of the 44 years i was in the jw cult from birth - i felt i could.
or should i say i was conditioned to feel that " i should " trust the elders.
as jehovah's witnesses we were all told the elders were " crags in a waterless country " who would be a " spiritual stronghold " for us.

Are You Past Irrational Fear?
by compound complex ingreetings, friends:.
the central theme of a film i viewed last night is 'a life lived in fear is a life half lived.'.
apart from normal fears, have you, for the most part, eliminated irrational concerns and worries from your life?.

I'm working on it. I used to have anxiety and panic attacks all the time especially at the kingdom hall. they faded away as I faded.
Things that still bther me- closed in places like elevators, crowds, and I don't like clowns or ventriloquist's dummies at all. I avoid these things whenever possible. Is that irrational?
